Responsibilities
The Data Science and Big Data Team (DSBD) at Beat is responsible for two things: a number of ambitious projects at the state of the art, that involve considerable R&D and the development and maintenance of the company’s Big Data infrastructure and architecture. The team works in the dynamic, agile environment and delivery-based culture of a product-oriented company.
As a Product Owner for the DSBD Team at Beat, you will be responsible for its priorities and focus, the short and long term vision for the projects the team is building, and representing it, as a communicator, to the rest of the company. You will be expected to have great business acumen coupled with strong technical foundations. You will need to think strategically for our business while executing tactical plans with razor sharp focus.
What you’ll do day in day out:
- Act as an ambassador for the team’s projects, both internally and externally, and as the primary technical contact for any queries related to team projects and systems
- Develop appropriately detailed specifications for product features so that they are clearly understood by the DSBD team
- Work with both stakeholders and the senior management teams to analyze market data and align the project roadmaps to strategic goals, both technical and business
- Develop scope documents and define Epics/User Stories that guide the DSBD team
- Solve problems, make decisions, complete trade-off analysis to stay on track towards business development commitments
- Be accountable for the team’s projects and communicate the project ongoing needs with business stakeholders
- Collaborate with stakeholders during the visioning and concept development of a project.
- Assess value, develop cases, and prioritize stories, epics and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy.
- Develop and maintain an appropriately prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation
Qualifications & Skills
- At least 4 years in a senior position as a Data Scientist or Big Data Software Engineer with a proven record of technical expertise in those fields and an excellent understanding of the relevant technical and business domains, as well as their unique challenges.
- You do not have to have prior experience as a PO, but it would be considered a bonus if you did.
- Good understanding of agile development methodologies — specifically we employ well-defined variations on Scrum and Kanban throughout Beat Engineering.
- Capability of making and understanding the impact of complex prioritization decisions under pressure.
- The ability to talk to people about their challenges, and lead the priorities of a team delivering software/systems to solve the hard problems data scientists and engineers face.
- Natural ability to make things happen around you. You manage project ambiguity, complexity and interdependencies in an organized and structured way.
- Be adaptable to change and able to execute quickly.
